We are pleased to announce the winner of the 2021 edition of our annual composition competition!

The field was very strong; ultimately the jury selected All the love that lies beneath by composer Edward Enman (Montreal) as our winner this year. The piece, to an original text, comes from a set of lullabies inspired by the composer’s daughter. Our warmest congratulations to Edward! His piece will be premiered by Chronos Vocal Ensemble in May of this year.

Edward Enman is a pianist and composer whose music warmly embraces storytelling, multimedia, collaboration, and innovative performance experiences.

As a soloist and collaborative performer, he performs regularly across Canada, and his compositions have been premiered and performed around the world. Edward’s debut EP “Refuge,” released in early 2021 and featuring works for solo piano, explored the weaving of text with instrumental music, as well as the dynamic energy of improvisation. His first full-length album of original music, funded by FACTOR Canada, will feature works for piano duo and piano/cello and will be recorded and released in 2022.

Thanks to all who entered, to our anonymous donor whose contributions have now funded five consecutive competition prizes, and to our Season Sponsors: Blindman Brewing, Professional Audiology Clinic Ltd and Halkier+Dutton Design.
