Notinikew: Going to War tells stories of Indigenous soldiers in conflicts since WWI.

Chronos launches its tenth season with a unique and powerful collaboration with composer and performer Andrew Balfour.

Join us as Andrew, the choir and several guest collaborators present his oratorio Notinikew: Going To War.

This production on Remembrance Day weekend will be the first staged performance since its premiere in Winnipeg in 2018 with Dead of Winter. Chronos Vocal Ensemble most recently hosted Andrew Balfour in Edmonton for the concert “Bridges” in May 2022, which featured three of the composer’s works including the premiere of Gaze upon the trees, on a text by Indigenous elder, writer and activist Duke Redbird, commissioned from Balfour this year. The piece is featured on the choir’s forthcoming album Resolve, along with the composer’s Vision Chant and Anthem for a Doomed Youth.

Watch for more news of the launch of our tenth season, coming soon!
